Sporophyte:

1. It is diploid generation of plant begins from fertilization upto division.

2. In the lower groups the sporophyte is reduced and simple and in higher forms, it becomes gradually complicated.

3. Sporophyte produces spores, which develop into gametophyte.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

4. examples- Sporophyte in algae is zygote. In bryophyte the capsule, in pteridophyte and higher plants it is the main plant body.

Gametophyte:

1. It is haploid generation of plants commencing from reduction division upto fertilization.

2. It is dominant in lower forms and becomes reduced and dependent in higher plants.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

3. Gametophyte produces gametes which on fusion produce sporophyte.

4. Examples Gametophyte in alagae, in bryophyte the main plant body, in pteridophyte the prothallus and in higher plants the pollen and embryo sac.
