Mr. Om Prakash Chautala is the former Chief Minister of Haryana. He had assumed the office of Chief Minister of Haryana record fifth time. Born on 1 January, 1935 at village Chautala in Dabwali tehsil of Sirsa district, he had his education at his village and later on at Sangria and Dabwali. Being a son of Chaudhary Devi Lai, he developed a passion for politics at an early age.

Mr. Chautala successfully organized Nyaya Yuddh the call for which was given by Chaudhary Devi Lai under the aegis of the Haryana Sangharsh Samiti. Its aim was to provide justice to people. He also organized huge public meetings like Haryana Bachao, Samast Haryana and Kisan Rally in different parts of the State to protest against lawlessness and corruption prevalent in the state.

Mr. Chautala was elected to the State assembly seven times in 1970, 1990, 1993, 1996, 2000, 2005 and 2009. He resigned from Haryana Legislative Assembly on 1 November, 1995 in protest against the failure of the erstwhile to safeguard the interests of people of Haryana on the issues of Yamuna water and pumping of flood affected areas. He defended Haryana’s case in the Ravi-Beas water and territorial disputes.

Mr. Chautala had served the state five times as Chief Minister. He becomes the Chief Minister on 2 December, 1989 and on 12 July, 1990. He became the Chief Minister again on 22 March, 1991, 24 July, 1999 and finally on 2 March, 2000. He won the last assembly elections from Uchana Kalan assembly constituencies.

He also remained a member of the Rajya Sabha iiom 1987 to 1990. He became the leader of opposition on 24 May, 1996 in the ninth Haryana Vidhan Sabha. He was elected as the President of the Haryana unit of Indian National Lok Dal in 1999. He remained the President if Haryana state Janata Dal and National General Secretary of the Sanajwadi Janata Party. He also served as Secretary General of the Sar.ijwadi Janata Party and Chief of the Kisan Kamgar Cell of All India l^ok Dal. At present, he is the President of the Indian National Lok Dal.

Mr. Chautala has also attended several national and interradonal conferences. He has toured extensively in the country and abro, d. The countries visited by him include the United States, the UK, Gt -many, France, Spain, Portugal, Australia, Japan, Holland, Pakistan, ( anada, New Zealand, Singapore, Greece, etc.

During his all tenure from as Chief Minister, Mr. Chautala had laid emphasis on transforming the economy of Haryana and made it free from floods; His government had also taken steps in evolving progressive policies concerning the industry, particularly in the field of Information Technology.
