Nisha Millet is the fastest swimmer in the Indian women’s aquatic contingent. She did her schooling from Sophia’s High School. Presently, she is studying psychology at Mount Carmel College, Bangalore.
At the age of 10 in 1992, she won a bronze at the sub-junior National Championship at Thiruvananthapuram. At 12, she became the youngest ever senior national champion.
Nisha Millet came into limelight internationally when she won gold in the 100-metre backstroke at the Asia-Pacific Championships, Colombo, Sri Lanka. In 1995, she bagged nine golds and silver at the National Games held at Bangalore.
This grand success brought her the I.O.A. Trophy for the Best Sportswoman of the Games. In the 1996 Asian Games, Bangkok, she created two new national records in the Freestyle category of 400 metres and 800 metres. She bagged seven golds at the S.A.F. Games, Kathmandu in Nepal, which is the highest number of golds ever won by a woman in this game.
