Raja Ali Khan was succeeded by his son Qadr Khan who took the title of Bahadur Shah. He was an erratic ruler whose unwise policies brought about the annexation of his kingdom by the Mughals. He did not care to respond to the congratulations of Prince Murad on his accession nor did he visit the Prince in spite of his repeated invitations.

He abhorred an ill-feeling towards the Mughals for not showing proper regard to his family after the death of his father on the battlefield. He turned down Abul Fazl’s offer to join the Imperial army and instead nominated his son. The situation took a turn for the worse after the death of Murad when his place was taken over by Prince Daniyal.

Even at this stage Bahadur did not realize the gravity of the situation and did not send any message of welcome to the Prince who greatly resented the attitude of Bahadur. Meanwhile Akbar arrived in Burhanpur. Bahadur fled and took refuge in Asirgarh.

Abul Fazl’s efforts to bring round Bahadur failed and eventually the Mughals occupied the whole of Khandesh and laid siege to Asirgarh which too was captured in January 1601 after the garrison had put up a heroic resistance. Thus ended the Faruqi kingdom of Khandesh.
