Born at Murariwala in Punjab, Rama Tirtha was influ­enced by the teachings of Jagadguru Sankaracharya of Dvarakhapitha and later of Swami Vivekananda. In 1901, he became an ascetic and started preaching the philosophy of vedanta. He toured several parts of the world and preached compassion and emancipation of humanity. He aimed at establishing a vedantic community.
