We shall be restricting ourselves to the management of water and ventilation in a school scenario. It is of utmost importance that good quality; tested potable water is available in the school so that children who drink it don’t suffer adversely.

Water is an integral part of productivity and is the basic element for the existence of life on earth. When some physical or human pollutant is dissolved in the water, its quality deteriorates. Such water creates health hazards and is known as polluted water.

Based on its quality water is divided into four categories:

(a) Clean Water:

This water is of the purest form and no suspended matter is present in it.

(b) Safe Water:

This type of water is safe for consumption. It is clean, tastes good and no pollutants are present in it.

(c) Contaminated Water:

Due to some physical and artificial reasons disease producing microorganisms are produced thus con­taminating Water. This water is capable of spreading diseases on a large scale.

When water pollutants are present in large amount and the quality of water has deteriorated to an extent that is colour and odour are changed and it has strong smell and a peculiar taste, such water is known as polluted water.
