The primary cause of estrangement of relations between Mir Kasim and the English was the evasion of duty by the East India Company’s servants.

The unlawful privilege of exemption of duty enjoyed by the Company and its servants put the Indian traders at a great disadvantage.

Mir Kasim thereafter urged upon the English to come to a settlement on the issue. But the Company’s, authority attached no importance to it.

Another factor that estranged the relations between Mir Kasim and English was that Mir Kasim was trying to modernize his army.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

The immediate cause of the conflict was Mir Kasim’s action to place the native traders at par with the English by the withdrawal of duty on all articles of trade.

This action of Mir Kasim ultimately led the British to open war against Mir Kasim in 1763.
