Stranding is a method widely employed to catch fish in shallow waters, water is thrown out from the shallow pit after separating it from the main body of water. After scooping out the water, fish are caught.

Angling is a very old and common practice of fishing. Fishing rods with baits are dipped into the water and when the fishes are caught while swallowing the bait, they are scooped up. Angling is practised both in shallow and deep waters.

Traps are special devices used for catching fish, particularly through moving water. Traps are usually woven baskets of cane and are kept in a place where the water is moving. After some time the traps are lifted and the fishes if any are caught.

In scooping, a net is tied to a rectangular or circular bamboo frame and is dipped in water and lifted up. The fish any will be trapped in this net.
