Commerce education is concerned with the study of the structure and functions of commerce. Following three areas of study are of interest in the study of commerce education:

(i) Commerce education as a part of general education.

(iii) Commerce study as a specialized subject.

(i) Knowledge about Commerce as a Part of General Education

This includes the knowledge about commerce that is needed by all people, non-commerce as also the commerce people. Such knowledge is required by the individual for handling his commercial affairs more successfully. This type of knowledge also helps the individual to become an intelligent citizen.

It includes the topics such as money and banks, budgeting, record keeping, insurance, travel, communication, transport, com­merce and community welfare, successful economic citizenship.

Commercial Law and Economics

Under the head Commercial law are included the topics such as contracts in everyday life, a valid contract, how a contract operates, how to buy and sell goods, installment and credit services, contracts of employment, life insurance contracts, cheques, drafts and negotiable instruments, buying or renting a home, business organisation con­tracts, remedying wrongs.

In the study of Economics the topics generally included are as follows:

Under this head is included the study of general commerce, economics, economic geography, commercial law, book-keeping, busi­ness management, accountancy, advertising and salesmanship, office practices etc.

(III) Specialised Study for Commerce Students

Under this head are included the topics much as book-keeping, typewriting, shorthand, office practice, cooperative commerce educa­tion, distributive education and office occupation.

Most of the topics included for study under this head are much which helps the students to gain specialised education for vocational competencies on different business jobs which are likely to be avail­able to the commerce graduates.
