Form of Democracy:

Democracy is of two types—direct and indirect.

Direct Democracy:

It is that form where all adults assemble together to make laws, pass budgets and elect officers. It prevails today in five cantons of Switzerland. This form is not feasible in modern states having large size of population and vast extent of territory. It could suit very small communities.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Indirect Democracy:

It takes the form of representative government. People elect their representatives who in the Parliament make laws on behalf of the people and are responsible to them. It is this kind of democracy that prevails in the U.K., the U.S.A. and India and many countries of the world.
