(i) Screw down type tap:

It consists of a spindle which moved up and down by screw action when rotated. To prevent leakage the spindle is passed through a stuffing box capped by a bush which can be screwed down. It has a valve plate which is flat circular disc, the lower surface of which is faced with a hard rubber or leather washer.

The water way through the body of the tap is closed by a flat circular disc. A hole is drilled through this platform immediately under the spindle. A grand seating is provided around the hole. Handle is fixed on the spindle by means of a squared shank.
