1. Apoplastic pathway:

Occurs due to diffusion and bulk flow of water from cell to cell through spaces between cell wall polysaccharides.

2. Symplastic pathway:

Active transport of mineral nutrients.

Translocation of Solutes :

i. Stout and Hoagland (1939) proved that mineral salts are translocated through xylem.

ii. The rates at which inorganic solutes are translocated through the xylem vessels, correspond closely with the rates of translocation of water.

iii. Some of the minerals are transferred radially from xylem to the phloem mainly through parenchymatous cells.
