The three principal characteristics that distinguish man from animals are:

(a) Man's ability to stand erect in a standing position, the forelimbs is free to handle objects and this development made the ape-man a craftsman. The internal organs of the body changed to suit the erect posture. The brain developed and helped man to use his intelligence which raised him above the animals.

(b) Man's ability to make and invent tools and work in cooperation with his fellow men. The ability of man, to transform natural objects into imple­ments distinguishes him in the animal world, so does his ability to work in cooperation with his fellow men.

(c) Man's power of speech the ability to speak is a special characteristic of man, through which there is continuous accumulation and transmission of knowledge. The power of speech shows higher intelligence which pro­duces ideas for expression which is only possessed by human beings.
