Thomas Alva Edison is perhaps the most remarkable inventor the world has ever seen. He was more of an inventor than a scientist. He was born in a well-to-do American family. He has a very large number of inventions to his credit. One of his inventions is the ‘phonograph’ which he invented in 1877. Phonograph is an instrument for reproducing sound that has been recorded on a disc or cylinder. Phonograph later became the gramophone. The first recorded human speech was the nursery rhyme, ‘Mary had a little lamb’.
